Privacy policy

Last updated : June 5, 2026

This policy explains what data Genioz processes, why, and what your rights are.

Data controller

Sacha Couget: sacha.couget1@gmail.com.

Data processed

Nickname: the name you choose to play. It is not linked to any identity and is only used to display you in the game.

Game content: your answers, estimates, choices and rankings, for the duration of the game.

No account: Genioz requires no sign-up, email or password to play.

End-of-game feedback (optional): if you leave a rating and a comment on the podium, we keep the rating, the text you wrote, your nickname, and the language and mode of the game. Please don't write any personal data there. the field only exists to improve the game.

Question statistics, with no identifier: to tune the difficulty, we count for each question how many players got it right, and how (tier chosen in The Zoom, speed in The Spark). In Scorched Earth, the text of a rejected answer is kept so we can spot correct answers missing from our lists, without your nickname or anything that could tell who typed it.

Cookies and local storage

A technical cookie "genioz_lang" stores your language preference.

A reconnection token may be stored by your browser so you can resume a game after a refresh.

Measuring whether players come back, without identifiers: your browser keeps the date of your first game and of your last day of play. Once per day of play, it only tells us “active, N days after the first game”: no identifier, no nickname. This date is forgotten after 13 months, and nothing is measured if your browser sends the “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal.

The Big Spark: to enforce “one guess per day”, your browser keeps a random token. The server only stores a fingerprint of it, different for each riddle, with the day and result of your guesses; this data is deleted one week after the reveal. The text of a wrong guess is kept separately, without that fingerprint, without a time or anything that could tell who typed it, to count the most common false leads; one week after the reveal, only the 20 most frequent remain, with their count. None of this text is kept if your browser asks not to be tracked.

Details are in the Cookie policy.

Purposes and legal basis

This data is used solely to operate the game (performance of the service and legitimate interest).

No advertising, no profiling, no data resale.

Retention period

Game data is ephemeral: kept in memory for the duration of the play session, then deleted.

No player database is built.

End-of-game feedback: kept for as long as it helps us improve the game. You can ask us to delete yours by writing to us with your nickname and the approximate date of the game.

Question statistics: kept for as long as they help us tune the game. They contain nothing that could identify a player.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase and object to your data.

To exercise it: sacha.couget1@gmail.com. You may also refer the matter to your national data protection authority.

Hosting and transfers

Data passes through the site's host (OVH SAS, Roubaix, France).

No transfer of data outside the European Union is currently planned.
