The Bluff — the online bluffing game where you invent the answers
The Bluff is an online bluffing game for 2 to 8 players, and Genioz's signature mode. For each trivia question, everyone invents a believable fake answer; the fakes and the real answer are then shuffled, and everyone votes for the one they believe is true. You earn tokens by unmasking the truth — and by luring the others into your trap. Free, no account, right in the browser: it's the idea behind Fibbage or Psych, playable with nothing to install.
How does a round of The Bluff unfold?
1. The question drops — something like “Which animal appears on the flag of Sri Lanka?”. Everyone has 45 seconds to write a believable fake answer, the one that sounds most like a real encyclopedia entry.
2. All the answers are shuffled: the players' fakes + the real answer, shown in random order, with no author visible.
3. Time to vote: 40 seconds to find the real answer among the traps, wagering 1 to 3 tokens on your pick. You can't vote for your own fake, obviously.
4. The reveal: who wrote what, who fell into whose trap, and the token count. Everyone's favorite moment.
How do you earn tokens in The Bluff?
Finding the real answer wins your wager; getting fooled loses it. On top of that, the bank pays two bonuses: +1 token for EVERY player who voted for your fake, and +2 tokens if you wrote the real answer without knowing it — your intuition gets rewarded even when it robs you of a bluff.
The real score engine is the trap: a fake that lures 3 players earns 3 tokens, with nothing at risk. Knowing helps you vote right; bluffing well pays more.
Three strategies to trap your friends
Mimic the format of the real answer. If the question calls for a date, give a plausible date; if it calls for a proper noun, invent a name that rings true. Fakes that stick out (too funny, too long) get eliminated on sight by good players.
Aim for “almost true”. The best fake is the one the others feel they've read somewhere before: a number close to the real one, a credible synonym, a half-truth.
Read your opponents at the vote: an answer that looks too clean among hesitant ones is often the real one… or the fake of the table's best bluffer. That's the whole spice of the mode.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I write the real answer without knowing it?
The game detects it (approximate spelling included): your answer merges with the real one and you collect a 2-token bonus. Nobody can vote for “your” fake, but your intuition gets paid.
Which games is The Bluff similar to?
The idea behind Fibbage (Jackbox Party Pack) or Psych: inventing fake answers to trap the others. The difference: The Bluff plays for free in the browser, with no account and nothing to install.
Does The Bluff work with 2 players?
Yes, from 2 players — each vote then comes down to your fake versus the real answer. The mode really shines from 3–4 players, when the traps multiply.
